Cherry Tree and Me

Poet Jaya Rai
Jaya Rai

After many days today
the east smiled.
Opening the window curtain,
I also celebrated.

The freezing cherry tree in the garden,
in its old, naked body,
smiles a bit,
pregnant like me.

She’s conceived
at each knot of her branches
beautiful buds
ready to bloom.

In the cold of a cruel winter
with chilly wind and snowfall,
she challenges and stands alone,
absolutely naked,
showing shamelessly
ugly parts of her body.

But
Now the days are coming for her to be proud of.
Branches are covered with beautiful flowers
from top to bottom,
Challenging the chill of the cold winter,
In the fine morning,
She is crazy to decorate herself,
Imagining the sound of bees,
dappled butterflies in her branches,
amazed !

I also wait
for the golden days of the cherry,
beautiful flowers to blossom
after her labour pain.
Like her,
I am also in labour pain,
giving birth
to a beautiful poem.
